The largest air pollution control project in Delaware's history received final approval Wednesday, a $500 million plan that could produce up to 500 construction jobs at NRG's Indian River power plant."It's been a problem for many, many years, and now they have concerns that the emissions could be causing a high cancer level," said Brignoli, who has lived northeast of the 740 megawatt oil- and coal-fired plant for 11 years. What's awesome is that the Pollution control efforts at NRG's Indian River power plant are expected to cut mercury emissions by 90 percent, while also reducing soot and acid gas. So if the factory was actually a cause of cancer there won't have to be many worries when pollution control comes into effect. This project should give a boost to the local economy and prevent the locals from recieving any health oriented abnormalities from the pollutants.

This project sounds like a good idea all around. Not only will it clean up pollution from this plant, but it will also provide desperately needed jobs. These are the kind of projects we need in this economy. Instead of just throwing money out to businesses, we should focus on creating jobs that will improve our country.

As a person who has had a family member go through cancer, if this power plant is the cause of some cancers, then it should definitely be cleaned. Not only would it help the environment, but families from around the area wont have to worry about the emissions that could cause cancer.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great plan not only because it will clean the environment and create many jobs, but also because it will help stimulate the economy. What ended the Great Depression was the extreme spending during World War II and so in order to end this recession the government will need to spend in order to stimulate the economy again. This $500 million plan wil help to re-stimulate the economy pretty well.
ReplyDeleteI think more states should create projects like this one. They sound to be very beneficial. They create jobs to improve the economy and improve pollution to keep the people healthy. The project is well worth $500 million because it will help improve the overall state of the economy.
