President Obama signed a defense bill Wednesday that kills some costly weapons projects and expands war efforts. In a major civil rights change, the law also makes it a federal hate crime to assault people based on sexual orientation. The $680 billion policy bill authorizes spending but doesn't provide any actual dollars. Rather it sets guidance that is typically followed by congressional committees that decide appropriations. Obama hailed it as a step toward ending needless military spending that he called "an affront to the American people and to our troops." Obama is taking initiative and creating the change he promised. It is critical that our nation save every penny possible as we increase our debt. This is one of hopefully many more changes that will aid in overcoming this recession.

I really like this defense bill, not only because of what it does for people and the United States, but also for what it implies. We, as a government, need to set rules, and experiment, before going pell mell straight into action. Rash action doesn't bode well for the U.S., or for anybody. I believe this bill is a great step in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteI think that this was a great idea! Obama is finally taking action instead of just talking about what he is going to do. Killing down some of the costly weapon projects and expanding war efforts is going to save our country a lot of money and the debt will definitely go down. This is definitely a great start towards getting our country out of this recession. This is a great change and I hope it works so we can get out of this recession, a couple more changes and everything will finally be okay again!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Chris. As the United States is finding the economy not as strong as it has been previously, the government need to focus on trying to cut down unneeded funding or programs. This saved money could help support America in its time of need.
